Frequently Asked Questions
What do you do?
SPM sells lumber (rough and dressed), trim and interior wood products (custom and standard moulding profiles, flooring, stair parts, siding, and much more), small and large scale trim packages for builders and contractors, and live edge slabs and table tops. Our goal is to provide you with the materials you need to complete your DIY project or custom build. We do not build furniture, and we take custom fabrication work on an individual basis, depending on availability. Give us a call to talk about your project and find out how we can make it easier!
Do you sell to the public?
We do! Everyone is welcome to shop at SPM. We will provide you quality materials and wholesale pricing, whether you buy one board or one thousand. Larger quantities and established business relationships help us to offer even greater discounts, but we welcome everyone!
What species do you sell?
We specialize in Appalachian Hardwoods, which include Poplar, Red Oak, White Oak, Cherry, Walnut, Maple, and others. We stock some exotic species and soft woods as well, but not structural building materials like 2x4s. Our wood is high quality, furniture grade, and is all kiln dried.
What is a boardfoot?
Hardwood lumber is sold by volume because it comes in random widths. The unit of measure by which we sell wood is called a boardfoot. It is the equivalent of 12”x 12” x 1”, or 144 cubic inches. We are happy to help you do the math when you come here!
Do you buy logs?
No. In the past we have occasionally purchased special logs, but we are not currently purchasing any logs.
Do you take down trees?
No. We are not licensed, insured, or equipped to do tree removal or transportation of any type. Call us and we can refer you to some excellent companies who are!
Can I bring my dog to the shop?
Sure! If your dog is friendly, vaccinated, and able to be recalled, you can bring them in to meet Birdie, Sally, and Boo.
Do you sell sawdust?
Yes! It’s $10 for all you can take, up to a pickup truck load. You have to bring your own receptacle and shovel and load it yourself. Sawdust is not separated- it could be any of the species we use all mixed together. Stop by the office during business hours and we will show you what to do!
